  • CCTV systems (IP based)

Todays world becomes more and more replete by surveillance cameras. However using single CCTV equipment is a good step towards leveraging security measures, it has been proven that it is not a self-healing treatment. Todays systems put very high demands on operators, who are often overloaded. Operators should operate and control various isolated security systems and monitor events in video. We take this fact into consideration and provide systems for intelligent CCTV surveillance. Intelligent systems aim to provide greater benefits for stakeholders by using various complementary technologies. This enable making more accurate and faster decisions and actions. Contemporary integrated CCTV systems are becoming the intelligence centrepoint.

    Sample Deployments
    • Shopping centers use CCTV for operation monitoring and security surveillance. In addition video analytics (counting, crowd management) and integration with low voltage systems (access control, fire alarm or IP telephony) unify security processes and forensic researches.
    • Airports CCTV systems are the key security element to achieve the given standards for real-time surveillance and archiving. Such systems are demanding high availability, long term storage and ideally integration with most of other security systems of the airport. The objective of airport CCTV is to monitor current operations, real-time identification security breaches and archiving all events for forensic researches. Supplementary technologies as video analytics (e.g. left luggage detection, wrong direction, perimeter intrusion) are often appointed to leverage the utilisation of CCTV system.
    • Municipalities and varios police departments use CCTV to control comfort of citizens and to detect any disruption or violations either on streets or roads. Combination with abilities of supplementary techniques to help identify any events even from cameras, that are not currently viewed by operator. Video analytics for traffic violations, license plate reading, unwanted behaviour detection are often appointed to help the CCTV operators act on the events that are of concern.
    • Corporate as banks, insurance companies and many others are using CCTV predominantly for forensic research of security events. Emphasis is then given on the high quality video storage. To enable fast and accurate research additional technologies as events bookmarking and video analytics may deployed.

  • Video analytics and detection

As more and more cameras are deployed in surveillance systems, chances that events that are of concern of security staff will be identified are approaching zero. Modern video analytical tools are useful hands to be added to the intelligent CCTV systems. Deploying video analytics enormously helps revealing the situations that deserve attention. IN addition to security applications, video analytics are also commonly used in other fields as marketing, traffic monitoring and many more.

Modern technology allow us to achieve the methods that were not possible just couple years ago. Video analytics is one of the example, how artificial intelligence can overtake our limited senses. Events are revealed much faster and more accurately, information is gathered more efficiently and we don't miss the important things.

    Sample Deployments
    • CCTV integration is a very typical usage of video analytical tools for detecting events in live video streams. It points out events even in hundreds of scenes simultaneously, which is not feasible by human operators. Video stream loop showing what had happened before the event is being recorded for easy identification of the vent. Alarms based on video detections are presented to operators for immediate action.
    • Traffic and parking applications of video analytics are mainly concerned with traffic and parking violations (wrong parking, red light crossing, wrong direction, forbidden access) or with monitoring of the traffic flow (density, queue, counting, classification).
    • Buildings and premises as banks, insurance companies are using video detections to protect their assets. Perimeter intrusion, stolen unattended objects and motion detections at night are the most common detections used.
    • Retail and marketing are benefiting from appointing video analytics for valuable information about customers behaviour, marketing campaigns effects, counting of customers or crowd management. Tools based on video analytics are also widely used for service point optimizations.

    • VideoDetective suite is unique video analytical suite. It's typically used for detecting events (loitering, perimeter intrusion, counting, crowd, access) in live video or recorded video. VideoDetective is offered in various packages for specific analytical applications.

  • Face recognition

There is the only one device that perfectly recognises faces - it is human brain. Although modern artificial intelligence is trying to simulate the principle of how humans recognise each other, same accuracy has not been yet achieved. Nevertheless there is one major contribution of face recognition - speed and capacity. While humans are limited in number of faces that can recognise, technology has no limits. So even with lower accuracy, technology can compare hundreds of thousands of faces in few seconds.

This capability and capacity is used in security, marketing and entertainment applications, where the face recognition algorithms are deployed to identify the faces. These algorithms are focused on the face parts that cannot be easily hidden, covert or changed - face shape and proportions, eye position, mouth shape and many others, while inspiration is again taken from the principles of how our brain works.

    Sample Deployments
    • Access Control is achieved by trying to match the face of person who is asking to grant access with his previous image that authorise him to enter. Face recognition access systems are usually combined with other authentication methods to increase the confidence of access permission.
    • Immigration uses face recognition to help immigration officers lookup for the persons face in the database. Once such face is with certain probability matching the one in database, the officer is noticed to take higher security measures.
    • Stadiums use face recognition to deny unwanted persons to enter the stadium. Generally to achieve this, two methods are used. The first is that only people who are banned from access are stored in database and the face recognition engine is comparing his face. The second method is to take picture of every person, who is purchasing ticket at teller desk. The face of entering person is compared with database.
    • Retail and marketing does not use full recognition capabilities, but uses the same techniques to identify customers behaviors. The engine detects position of head to measure efficiency of advertising campaigns, average observance time of ads and so forth.
    • Gaming and multimedia use face recognition in addition with other body parts detection for controlling other technologies. Currently new system based on this principles have been launched. Modern cameras use fancy versions of the technologies as "smile detection", when the camera takes picture when the object smiles.

    • VideoDetective face is a tool for face comparison. It's capability is to detect face even if the person is trying to avoid recognition by changing his hairdress or has grown beards. The tool is suitable for various customised solution that may be useful for security and other applications.
  • Video storage

Deployment of CCTV systems is growing rapidly. Camera density is increasing and allow monitoring of many areas like border control, municipalities, mass transportation hub like airports, train stations, metro. But beyond monitoring, CCTV systems bring extra value by gathering intelligence, corner stone of all security strategies.

Hand in hand with increasing number of cameras the demand for retention is growing rapidly. The need for sophisticated storage management is backed up by demands for high resolution, long term video archiving. CPE provides range of services related to video storing, archiving and retrieval management along with a unique storage manager SW enabling smart migration and retrieval of archived video between short-term and long-term storages.

    Sample Deployments
    • Airports are typically places with highest security standards and hence the demand for long-term storage of high resolution video from typically thousands of cameras is apparent. The concern is to cope with the security measures and forensic research objectives.
    • Municipalities usually store video with mid-term retention period. The demand for multiple synchronous or asynchronous playback of the archived video from geographically distant places is required. The emphasis on municipal storage systems is the accessibility and quality of remote storage and retrieval techniques.

  • ANPR & vehicles identification

Vehicle identification is done several ways. One of the commonly used technologies is reading and identification of vehicle license plate - license plate reading (also known as LPR or ANPR).

Plate reading systems and vehicle identification systems are widely used for surveillance, toll collection, traffic management, parking or building security, inventory management, vehicle theft prevention, border control, protection of key infrastructure like bridges, airports, seaports, and many more. CPE provides unique solutions based on world leading character recognition engine in combination with video analytics that leverage the utilisation in comparison with most of the classical ANPR systems.

    Sample Deployments
    • Gate operations are one of the widely used deployments of ANPR. Any vehicle approaching gate is recognised and the plate textual interpretation with image of the vehicle is stored in the database. The system allows automatic gate opening or notifications about unwanted vehicles. The gate operation systems may be extended by face capturing, other analytical tools.
    • Wanted vehicles detection is usually performed on freeways. Image of every passing vehicle is captured and it's plate number is read. The textual interpretation of the plate number is compared with the "wanted" vehicle registry. High accuracy of the plate reading is a key feature of CPE solution as it extends simple ANPR deployments with innovative techniques to increase the accuracy.
    • Toll collection usually relies on ANPR techniques while every vehicle passing the toll gate is captured and compared with authorisation information. If a disorder between the two is detected, the passing vehicle is identified as violating the toll collection requirements.
    • Traffic violations systems are sophisticated solutions based on combination of event detection subsystems as radars for speeding, triggered position detectors for red light crossing, time stamped images acquisition for sector speed measurement and many others. ANPR is predominantly used as strategic component that identifies the subject that violates the traffic regulations.
